The Githurai Kimbo Water Sanitation Project was implemented in 2015 at Githurai Kimbo Primary School, with an aim of ensuring the local students had continuous access to clean drinking water. In addition to providing drinking water, the project also boosted academic performance by reducing the number of illnesses associated with the lack of clean water.
This project involved installing gutters and water tanks to collect and store water, and the construction of double sided hand washing facilities for the students to wash their hands before meals and after bathroom use. In order to continually educate children on the importance of hygiene, informational wall paintings were installed near the water facility. A school health club was also established.
The local parents have teamed up with the school administration to maintain the facilities, so that the students have access to clean drinking water throughout the year.
